Fronsac is very much a secret that the Bordelaise like to keep to themselves and it is where famous wine makers choose to have their own vineyards (Michel Rolland, the late Patrick Leon etc). Opposite St Emilion it produces wines of great quality at prices that are mouth-wateringly low. La Dauphine is one such example. Organic certification has meant wines with terroir-driven freshness and ripe fruit. Neal Martin noted it as ‘yet another great Fronsac’, praising its opulence, writing ‘[it] has a superb nose with pure blackberry, boysenberry and crushed stone aromas, hints of iris and violet emerging with time.’ This is a special wine for the price and will be a much-loved addition to any cellar.
