Day 2 of En Primeur week
Our second day in Bordeaux began with blue skies and a trip to Leoville Barton to taste their wines, marshalled by the wonderful Lillian Barton.
From there we travelled to Pontet Canet to taste their 2016 offering which didn't disappoint: a clean, mineral and fresh fruit driven wine which clearly conveys the wonderful terroir that surrounds the Chateau - a wine of exquisite harmony.

We then tried Pym-Rae, Pontet Canet's newly-acquired Nap Valley estate, which was interesting: presumably it will improve with time as their biodynamic principles are implemented.
The famous Pontet Canet lunch then followed, with the 2007 vintage served alongside some fabulous food and the most incredible cheese table!
Our next stop off, via Lynch-Bages' mini village for coffee, was at Chateau Mauvesin before heading to Chateau Margaux, one of the Classified First Growths of Bordeaux, and arguably the most stunning Chateau in the left bank with its famous gated frontage.
We tasted the Grand Vin, the second wine Pavillon Rouge and their white. Margaux was beautifully balanced and harmonious - a very impressive offering which remarkably only uses 28% of the harvest and certainly one to keep an eye on as the critics' scores come in. We then met up with Eduoard and Nicholas at negociants Yvon Mau for a tasting before heading for a remarkable tasting menu at one of the best-rated wine bistros in France. An excellent end to a very productive and exciting day!
